A: CINEPHILE is a local non-profit arts organization and registered IU Student Group. We have an executive director and a board of directors, as well as a small number of volunteers and interns.

A: The mission of CINEPHILE is to make filmmaking a more accessible artistic medium. With the advent of digital video cameras, and with computers getting faster and cheaper, the tools necessary for making a movie are more readily available than they've ever been. 

The difficulty is that while making a movie is much cheaper and easier than it was even five years ago, it's still not exactly an inexpensive or easy endeavor. One person doesn't typically have the time, money, skills and resources to make a movie entirely on their own. This is where CINEPHILE comes in.

A: CINEPHILE helps people make movies by providing a venue for networking via our monthly meetings & workshops, website, and Yahoo Groups list. CINEPHILE has already proven itself to be a valuable resource for connecting people with various skills and interests. Cinematography, illustration, screenwriting, acting, music composition, editing, directing, lighting, choreography, make-up, prop building - people with these skills have been involved with CINEPHILE, as well as people who just love movies- so you should too.

What's more, our monthly meetings are a great way to get some feedback on what you're working on- bring your script, or a clip from your movie, or storyboards, or music, or anything else you have. You can even bring your finished film to screen.

CINEPHILE also provides other valuable resources, including a grant program that gives money to local filmmakers, and our annual '''Cinephile Festival of Independent Film & Video''' that showcases independent films from all over Indiana. The grant program begins in late summer, and the festival is held in early spring at the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington, IN.

A: Eventually, we plan to evolve CINEPHILE into a "membership organization." Currently CINEPHILE does not have a formal membership structure, but our meetings are open to anyone who wants to attend. We also have plenty of volunteer and internship opportunities. (See below for more info on volunteering)
