Major [[James B. Mulkey]] (October 4, [[1827]] - ?), was a Civil War veteran and a mayor of Bloomington.

He was born in Crawford County to James and Elizabeth (Wyman) Mulky, who moved to a farm in [[Washington Township]] in [[1834]].

In [[1845]] he enlisted in the army to fight in the Mexican War and was wounded at the battle of Buena Vista. Discharged in [[1847]], he tried various occupations, including teaching, farming, and pharmaceuticals, before going to law school. He graduated in [[1858]], and practiced law for a time, but reenlisted as the Civil War broke out. In [[1861]] he was commissioned a Colonel, but as the war ended he became a Major. After the war he returned to his [[Bloomington]] law practice.

In 1885, he was elected mayor of the city, and later turned to the [[Limestone]] business, becoming a manager of the [[Oolitic Stone Company]].

Mulkey married the former Mary J. Coffey on May 31, [[1853]], and they had six children, including Horace B., James O., and Frank L.

[[Ira Batman]] was a lawyer, judge, and [[Indiana University]] trustee in the early 20th Century. A [[Monroe County]] native, he attended the state university for a year before studying law for a year at the office of [[Buskirk & Duncan]] in [[Bloomington]].

Batman then spent a year in Nebraska before forming a successful Bloomington law partnership with [[Henry C. Duncan]], which continued until Duncan's death in [[1911]]. Batman then entered into a partnership with [[Robert G. Miller]] and [[James W. Blair]].

Batman served as attorney for the city of [[Bloomington]] for thirteen years and was county attorney for two years. In [[1905]] he was elected to the state legislature, and in [[1911]] he was elected a member of the board of trustees of Indiana University. He was also vice president of the [[First National Bank]] and served on the board of directors for that enterprise and also the [[Citizens Loan and Trust Company]].

In [[1888]] Batman married the former [[Mary T. Waldron]], the daughter of [[John Waldron, Sr.]], and they had at least one child, [[Emma L. Batman]].

[[John Waldron, Sr.]] ([[1827]] - [[1899]]) was one of the pioneer citizens of Bloomington.

Born in Drogheda, Ireland, Waldron was the oldest child of John and Mary (Hughes) Waldron. A tanner by trade, he emigrated to the United States along with his two brothers after the death of his father in [[1847]].

Waldron came to [[Bloomington]] in [[1856]] after purchasing a tannery from [[David Juday]]. The family boarded temporarily with the mother of Mrs. [[J. C. Worley]] at a location where [[Whitaker's Grocery]] would later be, before moving to a cottage on West [[4th Street]]. At that time there was no Catholic
Church in Bloomington, so a monthly mass was held in the Waldron house.

Waldron invested much of the profits from his tannery in real estate. He built his home at [[Kirkwood Avenue]] and [[Madison Street]], along with the residence of [[Ira Batman]] on Kirkwood. He also owned much property on [[The Square]], including, at his death, buildings occupied by [[C. F. Reed & Co.]], [[Urmey and Kinser]], [[C.C. Turner & Co.]], and the [[Hinkle Meat Market]], along with part of the [[Opera House]].

In addition, Waldron was one of the first organizers and president of the electric light plant, and owner shares in the [[Waldron, Hill & Buskirk Spoke Factory]], the [[Hunter Stone Co.]], the [[Central Stone Mill]], the [[Empire Stone Co.]], and the [[Bloomington Telephone Company]].

Waldron was married to the former [[Anna Bonecum]] in [[1848]] and they had eleven children: Mrs. William Blair, Mrs. Ira Batman, [[John Waldron|John B. Waldron, Jr.]], James, W. J., Joseph, Lucy, Cecilia, Alice, Emma and Ida.

Rechter worked his way up in the Rogers Group over the course of 50 years, and was named first president and later chairman of the board in [[1990]]. He retired in [[2010]], naming his nephew, [[Ben L. Rechter]], as his replacement. Rick Rechter continues as president and CEO of [[Mid-South Stone]].
