File talk:Mystery-picture-20076.jpg

From Bloomingpedia

It is a Mystery

What are the chances? I took this picture in August of 2006 and on the same day that I post the image as a mystery picture, the device gets taken down. It looked like maybe a car had hit it or something? Around 5pm there was a truck on the side of the road that appeared to be servicing/removing it and the guardrail was bent. -- Mark 20:59, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Hint #2: "On top" of the intersection of two major roads.

My Guess

I think I have seen one of these on "new" 37 just north of the SR 46 overpass.

I have seen these elsewhere - I assume they are some sort of InDOT weather station.

Correct. Its the weather station that was on the north side of the SR 46 bridge that goes over SR 37. Here is a picture of the device from today. -- Mark 22:11, 9 February 2007 (EST)

Road Weather Information System

This is a Road Weather Sensor on the Indiana Department of Transportation's INDOT Road Weather Information System (RWIS). As of this writing the time stamp on the last reading on this sensor is 2/4/2007 12:50:02 AM which is nine days old now. Must have been when it was flattened.

It snowed after it was damaged so I couldn't see any tire tracks. Looks like it has been visited on foot since it snowed though.

Road Weather Sensor back online!

This has been re-installed during the last few weeks. The official INDOT website has not yet been updated, but here is a direct link. --BirdieGalyan 17:13, 11 December 2007 (EST)--
