Talk:Forest Residence Hall

From Bloomingpedia

Coed status

I'm pretty sure Forest went coed in fall of 1995.

(That was me above.) I tried to dig around more, but the IDS online search only goes back to 2000. But in 2000, it mentioned a male student from Forest: http://www.idsnews.com/news/story.php?adid=search&id=107 - I am pretty sure it happened in the fall of 95 though, right after I left. (Unless they went back to female-only after that, and then back to coed?) --Jkonrath 10:49, 16 May 2006 (EDT)
Looks like it happened in 1996. I found an article from January 27th, 1996 on the HT site about an IU trustee vote to ad a co-ed wing. -Chrobb 13:07, 16 May 2006 (EDT)

Other trivia

A few other random things I need to research, but I remember off the top of my head:

- This is the third place named Forest. There used to be Forest Place, a bunch of houses that were razed when Ballantine was built. And the original Forest Hall, built in 1936, was renamed Goodbody Hall in 1962.

- Closed visitation (aka the "virgin vault") used to be on 11A.

- Forest is currently the only IU dorm not named after a person. --Jkonrath 16:37, 16 May 2006 (EDT)

Last one's not true anymore, now that they've started going with tree names, and Memorial Hall's a dorm again. --Jkonrath (talk) 18:15, 13 June 2021 (EDT)

Features

The new features at the top of this article makes it look less encyclopedic and more like a brocure to prospective students. Also, pretty much the entire list are items that are common to pretty much every dorm. I'd propose having some kind of meta-article about residence halls that lists this kind of stuff, along with who runs each hall, and maybe a table or something that shows features unique to certain centers. But I don't know enough about the current administration to do much. Any thoughts? --Jkonrath 17:39, 17 July 2006 (EDT)
