The Detroit Connection is the name local law enforcement authorities use to describe the influx of drugs, in particular cocaine, that are distributed in Bloomington by drug dealers from Detroit, Michigan. Reports of this connection first surfaced in 1991 with the rise in popularity of crack, a smokable form of cocaine. Bloomington became a popular target for drug dealers from Detroit and other larger metropolitan areas primarily because the heavy student population.
