One of the oldest churches in Monroe County, Mt. Gilead Christian Church can date its origins back to 1849. The church had three consecutive buildings on its original location at the intersection of Mt. Gilead Road and SR 45, culminating in the current structure that was built in 1923. In 2003 the church sold that building and temporarily worshipped at University Elementary until their current building at the intersection of 10th Street and Russell Road was finished.
