The Bloomington POPS was a professional orchestra in Bloomington founded in 1992 by John Clair Canfield. The orchestra had 70 members, most of whom were professional musicians or music educators. Their signature events were Picnic with the POPS, an Independence Day celebration and Christmas with the POPS, their annual holiday performance.
After canceling their 2013 Christmas program, the group was formally shut down the next year.

Picnic with the POPS
The annual picnic took place around July 4th and had a patriotic theme. Usually attracting thousands of people, gates opened around 5PM and there were children's games and fair-style food available until the official beginning of the concert at 8PM. Traditional pieces included singalongs of patriotic songs, the four military anthems, and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, which is accompanied by live cannon provided by the local National Guard unit. Fireworks follow the performance.
The picnic took place on June 30th in 2007.
