Condor

Condor (aka Hydra) refers to a cluster setup by UITS in ~2004 for the purpose of harnessing the unused CPU cycles of the vast number of desktop machines in the student computing centers all over campus. Its implementation was based on the Condor cluster application and it was used to run various applications including BLAST. It was discontinued in ~2006. One reason given for its demise was the rollout of the Windows firewall to the student computing clusters. This change was problematic for the Condor/SMBL messaging system that was used to tie the system together.
