Dave Volz

From Bloomingpedia

Dave Volz is a resident of Bloomington. He was a famous pole vaulter at Indiana University who participated in the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona, Spain. He cleared 19 feet at Barcelona and has been called one of the best American pole vaulters ever and an all around great athlete. His style of pole vaulting earned the term "Volzing", which refers to the practice of holding the bar down or lowering it as you pass over it. The rules where later changed by the IANA to disallow this. He was injured after trying to jump into the pit from the rafters in the HPER at IU.

Dave now works at Cook Incorporated.
