JOHN WYLIE DIES IN FLORIDA Message Brings News of Death of veteran Business Man

John H. Wylie, veteran citizen and soldier, died Sunday morning at 5:50 at his temporary home at Lake Helen, Florida, the good wife by his side. The news was not an entire surprise as the family had received a letter Saturday morning that he was quite ill, and a son, Dr. William H. Wylie, had started Sunday morning to be with him but cannot arrive until late today. Until that time nothing will be known as to the burial.

Mr. Wylie was aged 75 and hardening of the arteries was the cause of death. He was born three miles south of town, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wylie of blessed memory and was the father of the Wylie brothers, east side businessmen. Mr. and Mrs. Wylie would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in September and the aged wife, and also the family, will have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a man of high Christian character, leaving five devoted children worthy of his name. One, Allen Wylie, is now in France as a loyal YMCA worker with the army. The other children are Dr. William H., Charles and Miss Grace Wylie, and Mrs. H. B. Sturgis whose home is at Montpelier. Mrs. Margaret Fee, a sister older than Mr. Wylie, lives in Greencastle. For over 30 years Mr. Wylie had been spending his winters in Florida, and the last time went in October 1917, and has since remained. Our northern winters were too severe for him. I his death another veteran Monroe County soldier has answered final taps.
