Rick Greenspan was the Indiana University athletic director from September 2004 - June 2008. During his tenure, he hired new men's and women's basketball coaches, new football, volleyball, and soccer coaches, and set records in alumni donation dollars. Under his leadership, the university launched a new $55 million renovation of the athletics facilities and finished each of the last two years as one of the top 40 athletic programs in the nation.
In 2008, the NCAA's charges against the university in regards to Kelvin Sampson were expanded, and Greenspan resigned. Originally under contract until June 30, 2013, he had earned $300,000 annually, as well as deferred compensation of $60,000 a year and bonuses. He received a $441,600 buyout.
