  • 30th - James S. Johns is murdered on a train stopped in Gosport. Willis McMinniway was arrested for the crime, and sent on to Spencer to prevent a lynching.

  • 20th - A Mr. Bigwell is struck and killed by a train in Smithville.

  • 13th - The boiler of Soule & Peterson's steam saw mill, four miles northeast of Bloomington, explodes. Mr. Soule may have been fatally injured.
