J. W. Sears buys the grocery of W. C. Graves.

March 26: Harrodsburg Normal School begins operations with professors Burch, Neill and Hostetter.

C. R. PerDue trades his farm for the Bowman stock of goods, on the west side of The Square. Mrs. PerDue ran a millinery store bought from Mrs. Greggory.

April

Martha Buskirk announces plans for a new building on the south side of The Square, in the place of the Golden Rule. Nothing appears to have come of it, though, as a similar announcement was made in 1894.

May

William Norman is the victim of a whitecap attack in Polk Township. At midnight the gang breaks into Norman's house and forces him, his wife and two daughters, out to a location some distance from their house, where he is beaten with clubs and sticks. (Norman may have been the owner of a saloon on The Square that the whitecappers disapproved of.)
