  • Lingle & Sons open a saddler and harness business in the Ryan building, opposite the county jail.

  • William Johnson's saw mill near Cross Roads is destroyed by fire.

The W.A. Campbell farm, south of Bloomington is sold to James Bruner of Orange County.

The 16-room hotel near the Hunter Quarry is completed. It is the largest frame building in the county.

  • 22nd - A race riot breaks out in the primarily African-American area known as Bucktown. William Meadows received his death wound from a stone thrown by Jane McAfee.

  • A.H. Wilson opens a grocery in the room in the Cook property on North College Avenue, previously occupied by Joe Kirby.
  • William Perring of Chicago buys part of the Henry farm near Clear Creek, intending to start a small fruit business.

Harry Hight, Alfred Hinds and Harry Eakin purchase the McCalla planing mill, in the south part of the city, for $2350.
