TransPAC

From Bloomingpedia

TransPAC is one of the original networks managed by the Global Research NOC. The National Science Foundation awarded funding to IU in 1998 to create a high-speed link between Asia and the US with the purpose of making it easier for scientists on the two continents to collaborate. As such, it was charged with two goals: maintain a production-level network, and manage outreach to scientists on both continents.

The award in 1998, made under the NSF's HPIIS program, was for five years. It was extended in 2003 and again in 2004. It expired in 2005 and was replaced with a follow-up network, TransPAC2.
