Wetterau

From Bloomingpedia

Wetterau was a large food wholesaling firm at 311 N. Curry Pike. It operated in Bloomington from 1963 to 1994, distributing wholesale food items to 120 independently owned grocery stories, including Hays Market and IGA stores at Highland Village and Cascades.

Wetterau was a St. Louis company that moved into the Bloomington market by buying the John R. Figg Company in 1963. By 1992 the company operated a 400,000 square foot warehouse with a new, 50,000-square-foot refrigerator and freezer facility, and employed more than 300 people. That year it was bought out by Supervalu. Supervalu operated the plant for two years before closing it down.
