Significant events from 1888.
March 26: Harrodsburg Normal School begins operations with professors Burch, Neill and Hostetter.
Martha Buskirk announces plans for a new building on the south side of The Square, in the place of the Golden Rule. Nothing appears to have come of it, though, as a similar announcement was made in 1894.
William Norman is the victim of a whitecap attack in Polk Township. At midnight the gang breaks into Norman's house and forces him, his wife and two daughters, out to a location some distance from their house, where he is beaten with clubs and sticks. (Norman may have been the owner of a saloon on The Square that the whitecappers disapproved of.)
