Eastland Plaza

From Bloomingpedia

Eastland Plaza is located at the corner of 3rd Street and College Mall Road. It is owned by Albert Ruben of Indianapolis and managed by Sandor Development, also of Indianapolis.

The "gentrification" of Bloomington can be seen in a nutshell in Eastland Plaza: for many years it was home to two successful locally-owned businesses, Morgenstern Booksellers and Howie's Bagels. Eventually, after the town's population reached a certain size, it became attractive to national chains and the Barnes & Noble bookstore and Panera bakery-cafe opened up nearby branches. Owners Rick Morgenstern and Howard Wittenberg were unable to compete with the chains and both local businesses closed.
