Sarah Parke Morrison

Sarah Parke Morrison (1833-1916) was the first female to attend Indiana University in 1867 and was Indiana University's first female in 1869, completing her four year course work in two years. Morrison is also Indiana University's first female faculty member. She completed her masters and, in 1874, she was appointed adjunct professor of English literature. She authored a few books of poems, one in memory of her father, John Irwin Morrison (1806-1882), an educator, Indiana University trustee, and state legislator.
