Finelight

From Bloomingpedia

Finelight is a marketing agency founded by photographer Rodney Friend, with corporate headquarters in Fountain Square Mall in downtown Bloomington. Current CEO Sherman Rogers joined the company in 1991 when there were just seven employees, but by 2005 the company employed over 160. Specializing in healthcare marketing, the company's clients include Humana and WebMD.

Over time Finelight has grown to include offices located in Chicago, Louisville, New York City, and Ponte Vedra Beach (FL).

Finelight was the focus of much excitement in 2006 and 2007 when, outgrowing the Fountain Square Mall location, the company made it known that they were considering both building downtown and leaving the area. Following a fire at the popular Ladyman's Cafe downtown, Walnut Street Development (apparently a realty group with an identical address to Finelight's) bought the building for $1 million. Attempts were made to work out a deal for the city to build a new parking garage nearby the building, but a great deal of public discussion concerning how useful a new garage might be prompted the city to commission a study on Downtown Parking. The results were negative and Finelight decided to take over the old Teletron building on the west side of town instead. The company will still be in a Tax Increment Financing district there.
