Local Council Of Women

From Bloomingpedia

The Local Council Of Women was the originating body behind Bloomington Hospital. As early as 1897 various women's clubs around the community were being asked to organize into the Federation of Bloomington Women's Clubs, which eventually grew into the current organization.

The organization began developing plans for the hospital in 1904 and ground was broken in 1905.

In 2008 the hospital's planned merger with Indianapolis-based Clarian Health Partners ran into a snag when the bylaws of the Local Council of Women disallowed it. A meeting was called in order to change the bylaws, but membership in the organization swelled from 100 to more than 500 as local interest was piqued. On June 16, the motion to approve the change in the bylaws was approved, 403-149.
